On-Call Advocate/Crisis Line Volunteer

(Females Only)



Purpose:

To provide crisis intervention, a listening ear, referrals to other resources, or transportation to safety for victims of domestic abuse and/or sexual assault. Crisis advocates provide a vital link to available services when the office is closed after 4:30 pm.



Time of Day:

After 4:30 pm evenings and/ or all weekend hours.


Locations:

On call advocates operate out of their own homes using a pager.



Requirements:

  • Completion of the volunteer application & the required volunteer training

  • Good communication and crisis intervention skills

  • Driver’s license

  • An understanding of domestic violence issues and dynamics

  • Willing to work under supervision of Domestic Abuse Program Director and follow Family Support Center’s policies and procedures.



Responsibilities:

  • Respond to calls from the 24-hour crisis line

  • Complete a log sheet for each and every call

  • Fill out timesheet and send it and the log sheets back at the end of your week

  • Maintain the confidentiality of callers and program participants

  • Notify the Resource Development Coordinator as soon as possible if unable to fulfill shift

  • Attend in-services and trainings



Length of Commitment:

A three-month commitment is the minimum requirement because of the extensive training provided.
