On-Call Advocate/Crisis Line Volunteer
(Females Only)
Purpose:
To provide crisis
intervention, a listening ear, referrals to other resources, or
transportation to safety for victims of domestic abuse and/or sexual
assault. Crisis advocates provide a vital link to available services
when the office is closed after 4:30 pm.
Time
of Day:
After 4:30 pm evenings and/ or all weekend hours.
Locations:
On call advocates
operate out of their own homes using a pager.
Requirements:
Completion of the volunteer application &
the required volunteer training
Good communication and crisis intervention
skills
Driver’s license
An understanding of domestic violence issues
and dynamics
Willing to work under supervision of Domestic
Abuse Program Director and follow Family Support Center’s
policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Respond to calls from the 24-hour crisis line
Complete a log sheet for each and every call
Fill out timesheet and send it and the log
sheets back at the end of your week
Maintain the confidentiality of callers and
program participants
Notify the Resource Development Coordinator
as soon as possible if unable to fulfill shift
Attend in-services and trainings
Length of Commitment:
A three-month
commitment is the minimum requirement because of the extensive
training provided.
